The modified Sutherland–Einstein relation for diffusive nonequilibria

چکیده
There remains a useful relation between diffusion and mobility for a Langevin particle in a periodic medium subject to nonconservative forces. The usual fluctuationdissipation relation easily gets modified and the mobility matrix is no longer proportional to the diffusion matrix, with a correction term depending explicitly on the (nonequilibrium) forces. We discuss this correction by considering various simple examples and we visualize the various dependencies on the applied forcing and on the time by means of simulations. For example, in all cases the diffusion depends on the external forcing more strongly than does the mobility. We also give an explicit decomposition of the symmetrized mobility matrix as the difference between two positive matrices, one involving the diffusion matrix, the other force–force correlations.

On the onset of triple-diffusive convection in a horizontal layer of nanofluid heated from below and salted from above and below is studied both analytically and numerically. The effects of thermophoresis and Brownian diffusion parameters are also introduced through Buongiorno model in the governing equations. By using linear stability analysis based on perturbation theory and applying normal m...
متن کاملEntropic transport: a test bed for the Fick-Jacobs approximation.
Biased diffusive transport of Brownian particles through irregularly shaped, narrow confining quasi-one-dimensional structures is investigated. The complexity of the higher dimensional diffusive dynamics is reduced by means of the so-called Fick-Jacobs approximation, yielding an effective one-dimensional stochastic dynamics. Accordingly, the elimination of transverse, equilibrated degrees of fr...
متن کاملThe Einstein relation for random walks on graphs
This paper investigates the Einstein relation; the connection between the volume growth, the resistance growth and the expected time a random walk needs to leave a ball on a weighted graph. The Einstein relation is proved under different set of conditions. In the simplest case it is shown under the volume doubling and time comparison principles. This and the other set of conditions provide the ...
متن کاملNormal versus anomalous self-diffusion in two-dimensional fluids: memory function approach and generalized asymptotic Einstein relation.
Based on the generalized Langevin equation for the momentum of a Brownian particle a generalized asymptotic Einstein relation is derived. It agrees with the well-known Einstein relation in the case of normal diffusion but continues to hold for sub- and super-diffusive spreading of the Brownian particle's mean square displacement. The generalized asymptotic Einstein relation is used to analyze d...
متن کاملConformal mappings preserving the Einstein tensor of Weyl manifolds
In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a conformal mapping between two Weyl manifolds to preserve Einstein tensor. Then we prove that some basic curvature tensors of $W_n$ are preserved by such a conformal mapping if and only if the covector field of the mapping is locally a gradient. Also, we obtained the relation between the scalar curvatures of the Weyl manifolds r...
